Acknowledging the significant challenges to economic mobility in Winston Salem, North Patterson United (NPU) is a comprehensive family program designed to address this reality within the North Patterson corridor.
Scheduled to launch in January 2026, NPU will provide three years of holistic support to 40 families. The program’s ambitious goal is to help families achieve upward financial mobility, guiding them from the poverty line to the middle class.
Drawing lessons from successful models elsewhere, NPU takes a place-based and community-focused approach. It operates by empowering families directly and serving as a vital connector to the wealth of existing high-quality resources and opportunities already present within the community.
Key areas of focus within the NPU model include providing personalized coaching, fostering financial literacy and planning, intentionally building social capital and community connections, establishing clear pathways to securing living wage career opportunities, and building assets such as home ownership and reliable transportation.
NPU is built on a research-backed foundation and is committed to measuring progress and transparent reporting. The program focuses on delivering the sustained support necessary for families to make lasting changes and achieve permanent economic independence
